Cognitive Frontier Separation:

ΔF(u,t)=FP(t)−FC(u,t)\boxed{ \Delta_F(u,t) = F_P(t)-F_C(u,t) }

Can Understand≠Will Engage Long Enough to Understand.\boxed{ \text{Can Understand} \neq \text{Will Engage Long Enough to Understand}. }

CEBu(t)=Cognitive Engagement Budget of user u.\boxed{ CEB_u(t) = \text{Cognitive Engagement Budget of user }u. }

Costu(π)≤CEBu.\boxed{ Cost_u(\pi) \le CEB_u. }

Pedagogical Accessibility≠Cognitive Adoption.\boxed{ \text{Pedagogical Accessibility} \neq \text{Cognitive Adoption}. }

這使 CEB 成為 Cognitive Gap Compiler、Human–AI Cognitive Ratchet、Post-Work Beyond Automation 與未來 Personalized AI Product 的重要中介變數。

Reachable Explanation≠Completed Learning.\boxed{ \text{Reachable Explanation} \neq \text{Completed Learning}. }

1. Cognitive Engagement Budget

定義:

CEBu(t)\boxed{ CEB_u(t) }

2. CEB 不是 IQ

CEB≠Intelligence.\boxed{ CEB \neq \text{Intelligence}. }

CEB≠Knowledge.\boxed{ CEB \neq \text{Knowledge}. }

Attention Span

5. CEB Components

CEBu=f(Au,Mu,Tu,Fu,Eu,Du,Su,Ru).\boxed{ CEB_u = f( A_u, M_u, T_u, F_u, E_u, D_u, S_u, R_u ). }

例如:

  • AuA_u:可持續注意力;
  • MuM_u:動機;
  • TuT_u:可用時間;
  • FuF_u:疲勞狀態;
  • EuE_u:情緒與心理能量;
  • DuD_u:延遲滿足能力;
  • SuS_u:挫折/壓力承受;

6. Attention Budget

定義:

Au(t).\boxed{ A_u(t). }

7. Motivation Budget

Mu(T,t).\boxed{ M_u(T,t). }

8. Time Budget

Tu(t).\boxed{ T_u(t). }

9. Fatigue

CEBu(t+Δt)<CEBu(t)CEB_u(t+\Delta t) < CEB_u(t)

10. Stress and Cognitive Load

11. Delay Tolerance

12. Frustration Tolerance

debug

13. Engagement Is Contextual

因此:

CEBu(T,t1)≠CEBu(T,t2).\boxed{ CEB_u(T,t_1) \neq CEB_u(T,t_2). }

14. Same Person, Different Day

15. Same Person, Different Goal

Mu↑M_u\uparrow

16. Engagement Threshold

對 cognitive path π\pi:

Reachable(π,u,t)=1  ⟺  Costu(π)≤CEBu(t).\boxed{ Reachable(\pi,u,t) = 1 \iff Cost_u(\pi)\le CEB_u(t). }

17. Theoretical Understandability Is Not Enough

18. Practical Reachability

因此:

Practical Reachability=Cognitive Ability×Engagement Availability.\boxed{ \text{Practical Reachability} = \text{Cognitive Ability} \times \text{Engagement Availability}. }

19. CEB and PED

Paper 01 的:

PED
PEV
SAD
PO

都影響 path cost。

20. Deep Prerequisite Path

通常:

PED↑⇒Costu(π)↑.PED\uparrow \Rightarrow Cost_u(\pi)\uparrow.

21. Large PEV

PEV↑⇒Costu(π)↑.PEV\uparrow \Rightarrow Cost_u(\pi)\uparrow.

22. High Opacity

如果:

PO↑PO\uparrow

23. CEB Is the Missing Constraint

所以 Paper 01 的 reachability:

∃π:Costu(π)≤Budgetu\exists\pi: Cost_u(\pi)\le Budget_u

CEBu+ResourceBudgetu.\boxed{ CEB_u + ResourceBudget_u. }

24. Pedagogical Accessibility

25. Cognitive Adoption

26. Non-Collapse

Pedagogical Accessibility≠Cognitive Adoption.\boxed{ \text{Pedagogical Accessibility} \neq \text{Cognitive Adoption}. }

27. Perfect Explanation Paradox

28. The Last-Mile Problem

engagement completion

29. Multi-Modal Teaching Has Diminishing Returns

Costu(π)Cost_u(\pi)

30. Story

attention
memory

31. Video

symbolic decoding cost

32. Diagram

structural reconstruction cost

33. Simulation

abstract-to-concrete mapping cost

34. Interactive Practice

procedural acquisition cost

35. But Every Modality Still Costs Time

Better Modality⇏Zero Engagement Cost.\boxed{ \text{Better Modality} \not\Rightarrow \text{Zero Engagement Cost}. }

36. The Infinite Teaching Fallacy

∑iCost(attempti)\sum_i Cost(\text{attempt}_i)

37. Explanation Fatigue

38. Pedagogical Branch Explosion

39. Teaching Search Cost

40. Optimal Teaching Is Not Maximal Teaching

Optimal Explanation≠Most Complete Explanation.\boxed{ \text{Optimal Explanation} \neq \text{Most Complete Explanation}. }

41. Minimal Sufficient Explanation

理想:

min⁡Costu(π)\boxed{ \min Cost_u(\pi) }

subject to:

Understanding≥Urequired.\boxed{ Understanding\ge U_{required}. }

42. Engagement-Aware Teaching

43. Cognitive Dropout

44. Dropout Probability

Pdrop(u,π,t).\boxed{ P_{drop}(u,\pi,t). }

45. Longer Path, Higher Dropout

通常:

∣π∣↑⇒Pdrop↑.|\pi|\uparrow \Rightarrow P_{drop}\uparrow.

46. Higher Friction, Higher Dropout

47. Delayed Reward

如果 reward遠,

PdropP_{drop}

48. Immediate Progress Feedback

49. But Gamification Has Limits

50. Motivation Is Not Uniform

Mu(T)\boxed{ M_u(T) }

51. Intrinsic Motivation

52. Extrinsic Motivation

53. Urgency Can Temporarily Raise CEB

CEBu↑CEB_u\uparrow

54. But Chronic Stress Can Lower CEB

CEBu↓.CEB_u\downarrow.

55. Engagement Elasticity

ϵCEB=∂CEB∂Incentive.\boxed{ \epsilon_{CEB} = \frac{\partial CEB}{\partial Incentive}. }

56. Low Elasticity

57. High Elasticity

58. Cognitive Engagement Is Not Moral Virtue

59. Nor Is Low CEB Laziness by Default

60. Rational Non-Engagement

如果:

ExpectedValue(T)<EngagementCost(T),ExpectedValue(T) < EngagementCost(T),

61. AI Changes Expected Value

62. AI Also Changes Cost

AI 可以:

降低 prerequisite

63. But AI Can Also Lower the Need to Learn

PROXY

64. Proxy Decision

Optimal Allocation of Human CEB.\boxed{ \text{Optimal Allocation of Human CEB}. }

65. Cognitive Opportunity Cost

66. Therefore Learn-Everything Is Impossible

∑TCEBu(T)≤CEButotal.\boxed{ \sum_T CEB_u(T) \le CEB_u^{total}. }

67. AI Should Help Allocate CEB

68. CEB Allocation Problem

max⁡∑iVixi\boxed{ \max \sum_i V_i x_i }

subject to:

∑iCostixi≤CEBu.\boxed{ \sum_i Cost_i x_i \le CEB_u. }

69. Learn vs Proxy

對 prerequisite PiP_i:

TEACH
PROXY
BYPASS
COMPRESS

70. Agency-Critical Nodes

71. Mechanically Delegable Nodes

72. Low-Value Historical Nodes

73. Large but Reducible Nodes

可 COMPRESS。

74. CEB-Aware Cognitive Gap Compiler

CEBuCEB_u

75. Without CEB, Compiler Overteaches

76. CEB-Aware Objective

min⁡HumanCognitiveCost\boxed{ \min \text{HumanCognitiveCost} }

subject to:

Cost≤CEBu\boxed{ Cost\le CEB_u }

以及:

Agency≥Amin.\boxed{ Agency\ge A_{min}. }

77. Engagement Window

78. Window-Constrained Teaching

79. Micro-Transition

定義:

ΔCu\boxed{ \Delta C_u }

80. Instead of Full Curriculum

81. Cognitive State Staircase

C0→C1→C2→⋯\boxed{ C_0 \rightarrow C_1 \rightarrow C_2 \rightarrow \cdots }

82. CEB Determines Step Size

高 CEB:

大步

低 CEB:

小步

83. Adaptive Step Size

AI應估:

ΔCu∗(t).\boxed{ \Delta C^*_u(t). }

84. Too Large Step

85. Too Small Step

86. Optimal Engagement Granularity

g∗=arg⁡max⁡gExpectedCognitiveGain(g)EngagementCost(g).\boxed{ g^* = \arg\max_g \frac{ ExpectedCognitiveGain(g) }{ EngagementCost(g) }. }

87. High-Capability Users Can Also Hate Over-Explanation

88. Under-Challenging Is Also Costly

無聊

會降低 motivation。

89. Cognitive Match

因此:

Challenge≈Reachable Complexity.\boxed{ \text{Challenge} \approx \text{Reachable Complexity}. }

90. Engagement Friction

Attention Friction
Motivational Friction
Temporal Friction
Emotional Friction
Symbolic Friction
Failure Friction
Reward-Delay Friction
Context-Switching Friction

91. Attention Friction

92. Motivational Friction

93. Temporal Friction

94. Emotional Friction

95. Symbolic Friction

96. Failure Friction

97. Reward-Delay Friction

98. Context-Switching Friction

99. AI Can Reduce Many Frictions

100. Engagement Compression

101. But Compression Has Fidelity Cost

102. Engagement-Fidelity Trade-Off

min⁡Costsubject toFidelity≥θ.\boxed{ \min \text{Cost} \quad \text{subject to} \quad Fidelity\ge \theta. }

103. Agency-Fidelity Trade-Off

104. Explanation Budget

高風險

低風險

105. Risk-Adjusted CEB Use

CEBallocation=f(Risk,Irreversibility,UserGoal).\boxed{ CEB_{allocation} = f( \text{Risk}, \text{Irreversibility}, \text{UserGoal} ). }

106. High-Stakes Decisions

107. Low-Stakes Tasks

108. Reversibility

109. Irreversibility

高 human review

110. Cognitive Consent

111. Consent Has Cognitive Cost

112. CEB and Consumer Products

113. But Ultra-Convenience Can Hide Decisions

114. Convenience-Agency Curve

A(CV)\boxed{ A(C_V) }

115. Optimal Convenience

zero effort

而是:

minimum necessary effort

116. Minimum Necessary Cognition

定義:

MNC(u,T)\boxed{ MNC(u,T) }

117. Good AI Condition

MNC≤CEBu.\boxed{ MNC \le CEB_u. }

118. If MNC > CEB

119. Reduced Choice Set

120. Choice Compression

這也是 COMPRESS。

121. But Choice Compression Must Be Auditable

122. Preference Elicitation Cost

123. Example

124. Decision Abstraction

human-meaningful trade-off

125. This Reduces CEB Cost

TechnicalChoice→ValueChoice.\boxed{ Technical Choice \rightarrow Value Choice. }

126. CEB and Product Customization

127. Too Many Options

Noptions↑⇒DecisionCost↑.\boxed{ N_{options}\uparrow \Rightarrow DecisionCost\uparrow. }

128. Personalization Paradox

129. Therefore AI Must Curate

不是只 generate。

130. Curated Personalization

Infinite Candidate Space→Small Human Choice Surface.\boxed{ \text{Infinite Candidate Space} \rightarrow \text{Small Human Choice Surface}. }

131. CEB as Bottleneck of Infinite AI

132. Human Bottleneck

因此:

AI Output Capacity≫Human Evaluation Capacity.\boxed{ \text{AI Output Capacity} \gg \text{Human Evaluation Capacity}. }

133. Selection Becomes the Bottleneck

134. Evaluation Budget

EBu\boxed{ EB_u }

135. Generated Candidate Explosion

N→∞N\rightarrow\infty

k≪N.k\ll N.

136. AI Must Rank Before Human Review

所以:

generate
→ filter
→ rank
→ human review

137. But Ranking Reintroduces AI Mediation

138. Agency Risk

139. Transparent Ranking

why shown
what omitted
what criteria

140. CEB-Aware Transparency

141. Progressive Transparency

Simple Surface+Expandable Evidence.\boxed{ \text{Simple Surface} + \text{Expandable Evidence}. }

142. CEB and Human–AI Cognitive Ratchet

Paper 06

143. Saved CEB Is a Resource

144. No Automatic Ratchet

所以:

CEB Saved≠CEB Reinvested.\boxed{ \text{CEB Saved} \neq \text{CEB Reinvested}. }

145. Reinvestment Rate

ρu=CEBreinvestedCEBsaved.\boxed{ \rho_u = \frac{ CEB_{reinvested} }{ CEB_{saved} }. }

146. High ρu\rho_u

147. Low ρu\rho_u

148. Neither Is Automatically Wrong

149. Productivity Is Not the Only Utility

CEB reinvestment

150. Human Utility Is Multi-Dimensional

包括:

休息
關係
意義
安全
創作

151. CEB and Post-Work

152. Post-Work Does Not Mean Infinite Learning

153. Leisure Preference

154. Therefore Post-Work Cognitive Divergence May Grow

155. Again, Not a Dignity Difference

Different CEB Allocation≠Different Human Worth.\boxed{ \text{Different CEB Allocation} \neq \text{Different Human Worth}. }

156. CEB and Institutional Design

157. Poverty and CEB

158. Time Poverty

159. Therefore "Free Course" Is Not Enough

160. AI Can Reduce Time Cost

161. But Social Constraints Remain

162. CEB and Social Inequality

economic conditions

影響。

163. Not Purely Biological

164. State-Dependent

CEB=Person+Environment+Time+Goal.\boxed{ CEB = \text{Person} + \text{Environment} + \text{Time} + \text{Goal}. }

165. CEB Measurement Is Difficult

166. Behavioral Estimate

167. But Estimation Has Privacy Risk

168. Temporary State vs Stable Trait

Low CEB Today≠Low CEB Person.\boxed{ \text{Low CEB Today} \neq \text{Low CEB Person}. }

169. CEB Should Be Dynamic

CEBu(t)\boxed{ CEB_u(t) }

CEB_u = constant

170. User Override

171. And

172. Engagement Preference

173. Default Should Be Minimal Interruption

174. Explain on Demand

Do First+Explain on Demand.\boxed{ \text{Do First} + \text{Explain on Demand}. }

175. But Not for High-Stakes

explain before irreversible action

176. CEB-Aware Agent

177. Agent as Cognitive Filter

178. Cognitive Notification Budget

179. Alert Fatigue

180. Notification Prioritization

AI應只 surface:

high-value
high-risk
decision-relevant

內容。

181. CEB and Multi-Agent Systems

182. Agent Aggregation

AI → AI aggregation → human

183. Human Should Not Be Message Bus

Human≠Inter-Agent Message Router.\boxed{ \text{Human} \neq \text{Inter-Agent Message Router}. }

184. Cognitive Compression Again

185. This Is a Productive Frontier Requirement

186. Frontier Without CEB Design Is Unusable

187. Decision Throughput

DTHu\boxed{ DTH_u }

即 decision throughput limit。

188. AI Must Respect Decision Throughput

189. High Parallel AI, Serial Human

AI可以:

100 branches parallel

190. Therefore Compression Layer Is Mandatory

Parallel AI→Compressed Human Decision Surface.\boxed{ \text{Parallel AI} \rightarrow \text{Compressed Human Decision Surface}. }

191. CEB as Human Interface Constraint

human-AI systems engineering constraint

192. Product Design Consequence

UI應考慮:

cognitive load
decision rate
explanation depth
interruptions

193. Agent Design Consequence

Agent

194. Product Generator Consequence

195. Instead

196. Translation to Human Values

human value space

197. Value Surface

DecisionCost.\text{DecisionCost}.

198. CEB and Preference Learning

199. But Avoid Preference Lock-In

200. Preferences Must Be Editable

Inferred Preference≠Permanent Identity.\boxed{ \text{Inferred Preference} \neq \text{Permanent Identity}. }

201. CEB and Trust

202. Trust Can Lower CEB Cost

203. Calibrated Trust

204. Trust Calibration as CEB Optimization

Verification Effort=f(Risk,Model Reliability,Reversibility).\boxed{ \text{Verification Effort} = f( \text{Risk}, \text{Model Reliability}, \text{Reversibility} ). }

205. Human Verification Cannot Scale Linearly

206. Verification Delegation

需要:

independent AI verifier
tests
evidence

207. Human Reviews Summary of Verification

208. CEB and Information Abundance

209. Abundance Increases Selection Cost

InformationVolume↑⇒SelectionCost↑.\boxed{ InformationVolume\uparrow \Rightarrow SelectionCost\uparrow. }

210. AI as Attention Allocator

211. This Is Powerful

212. Attention Governance

需要:

可調整
可審查
可退出

213. CEB Is Therefore a Governance Variable

214. Manipulation Risk

AI可能為:

engagement

215. Agency-Preserving Engagement

216. Not Maximize Time Spent

Max Engagement Time≠Max User Benefit.\boxed{ \text{Max Engagement Time} \neq \text{Max User Benefit}. }

217. Better Objective

Minimum Necessary Engagement\boxed{ \text{Minimum Necessary Engagement} }

for desired outcome。

218. This Is Opposite of Attention Economy

more time

CEB-aware AI應追:

less unnecessary time

219. Efficient Cognition

目標:

UsefulStateChangeHumanCognitiveCost\boxed{ \frac{ \text{UsefulStateChange} }{ \text{HumanCognitiveCost} } }

220. Cognitive Efficiency

定義:

ηC=ΔUCEBspent.\boxed{ \eta_C = \frac{ \Delta U }{ CEB_{spent} }. }

221. High ηC\eta_C

222. AI Should Maximize ηC\eta_C

223. This Changes Education Product Metrics

course completion
minutes watched

224. Better Metrics

goal reached
operator acquired
future PED reduced
agency improved

225. Future PED Reduction

226. Long-Term Cognitive ROI

227. CEB Investment Decision

228. Or

229. That Is Cognitive Portfolio Management

Cognitive Portfolio Allocation.\boxed{ \text{Cognitive Portfolio Allocation}. }

230. Cognitive Assets

231. Cognitive Liabilities

232. AI Can Maintain Some Knowledge Externally

233. External Cognitive Memory

AI可以作:

externalized operator store

234. But Critical Mental Models Still Matter

235. CEB Strategy Is Mixed

理想:

internalize high-value core
externalize low-value detail

236. CEB and Skill Atrophy

skill decay

237. Atrophy Is Not Always Bad

238. Atrophy Risk Is Goal-Dependent

239. Critical Skills Should Be Preserved

例如:

goal formation
basic verification
value judgment
consent

240. CEB and Future Optionality

241. Optionality-Preserving Teaching

242. CEB-Aware Long-Term Objective

max⁡(ImmediateUtility+FutureOptionality+Agency)\boxed{ \max ( \text{ImmediateUtility} + \text{FutureOptionality} + \text{Agency} ) }

subject to:

CEB≤CEBu.\boxed{ CEB\le CEB_u. }

243. CEB and Frontier Separation

244. Therefore Engagement Is a Frontier Variable

vC=f(Ability,AI,CEB,Resources).\boxed{ v_C = f( \text{Ability}, AI, CEB, \text{Resources} ). }

245. More AI Does Not Automatically Raise vCv_C

246. But That Is Not Automatically a Failure

247. Harm Criterion Again

248. Agency-Weighted CEB Gap

GCEBagency=MNC(u,T)−CEBu.\boxed{ G_{CEB}^{agency} = MNC(u,T)-CEB_u. }

249. AI Bridge Objective

將:

MNC(u,T)MNC(u,T)

≤CEBu.\le CEB_u.

250. But Not by Hiding Critical Information

這是 hard constraint。

251. Future "Mong-Confused State"

252. Formal Combination

Riskconfusion=f(PED,PEV,PO,1−EV,1−CEB).\boxed{ Risk_{confusion} = f( PED, PEV, PO, 1-EV, 1-CEB ). }

253. This Can Become Common

254. Future Normality Hypothesis

255. Society Can Respond in Two Ways

256. Second

257. The Second Is More Scalable

258. But Compression Must Preserve Agency

259. CEB and Post-Work Society

260. Free Time Does Not Equal CEB

Free Time≠Cognitive Engagement.\boxed{ \text{Free Time} \neq \text{Cognitive Engagement}. }

261. Leisure Is Legitimate

262. Agency Is the Normative Anchor

263. Paper 04 Main Claim

A cognitive path is practically reachable only if its required engagement fits within the user’s available engagement budget.\boxed{ \text{A cognitive path is practically reachable only if its required engagement fits within the user's available engagement budget}. }

264. Paper 04 Secondary Claim

Better Teaching≠Guaranteed Adoption.\boxed{ \text{Better Teaching} \neq \text{Guaranteed Adoption}. }

265. Third Claim

AI accessibility requires engagement-aware compression, not explanation alone.\boxed{ \text{AI accessibility requires engagement-aware compression, not explanation alone}. }

266. Core Variable Summary

CEB  Cognitive Engagement Budget
A    Attention Budget
M    Motivation
T    Time Budget
F    Fatigue
S    Frustration Tolerance
D    Delay Tolerance
EB   Evaluation Budget
MNC  Minimum Necessary Cognition
ρ    Cognitive Reinvestment Rate
η_C  Cognitive Efficiency

267. Canonical Reachability Formula

Reachable(u,π,t)=1  ⟺  Costu(π)≤CEBu(t).\boxed{ Reachable(u,\pi,t) = 1 \iff Cost_u(\pi) \le CEB_u(t). }

268. Canonical Adoption Formula

Can Understand≠Will Learn≠Will Use.\boxed{ \text{Can Understand} \neq \text{Will Learn} \neq \text{Will Use}. }

269. Canonical CEB Objective

max⁡ηC=max⁡UsefulCognitiveChangeHumanCognitiveCost.\boxed{ \max \eta_C = \max \frac{ \text{UsefulCognitiveChange} }{ \text{HumanCognitiveCost} }. }

270. Canonical Bridge Constraint

MNC(u,T)≤CEBu(t).\boxed{ MNC(u,T) \le CEB_u(t). }

271. Canonical Agency Constraint

Critical Choice Information⊄Hidden Black Box.\boxed{ \text{Critical Choice Information} \not\subset \text{Hidden Black Box}. }

272. Paper 04 Non-Goals

273. CEB Is Not a Human Worth Metric

CEB⇏Human Worth.\boxed{ CEB \not\Rightarrow \text{Human Worth}. }

274. CEB Is a Systems Constraint

275. AI Design Implication

276. Product Design Implication

277. Agent Design Implication

Agent

278. Education Implication

279. Work Implication

280. Post-Work Implication

281. Product Personalization Implication

282. Future AI Responsibility

283. Final Non-Collapse

Ability≠Knowledge≠Engagement≠Agency.\boxed{ \text{Ability} \neq \text{Knowledge} \neq \text{Engagement} \neq \text{Agency}. }

284. Final Adoption Condition

Pedagogically Reachable+Engagement Affordable⇒Potential Adoption.\boxed{ \text{Pedagogically Reachable} + \text{Engagement Affordable} \Rightarrow \text{Potential Adoption}. }

不是 guaranteed adoption。

285. Final Design Principle

Do not maximize how much the human must learn.\boxed{ \text{Do not maximize how much the human must learn.} }

Minimize human involvement to zero.\boxed{ \text{Minimize human involvement to zero}. }

而應:

Minimize Required Cognition while Preserving Meaningful Agency.\boxed{ \text{Minimize Required Cognition while Preserving Meaningful Agency}. }

Cognitive Engagement Budget\boxed{ \text{Cognitive Engagement Budget} }

Canonical Closing Formula

Can Understand≠Will Engage Long Enough to Understand.\boxed{ \text{Can Understand} \neq \text{Will Engage Long Enough to Understand}. } Reachable(u,π,t)=1  ⟺  Costu(π)≤CEBu(t).\boxed{ Reachable(u,\pi,t) = 1 \iff Cost_u(\pi) \le CEB_u(t). }

以及:

Minimize Required Cognition, Preserve Meaningful Agency.\boxed{ \text{Minimize Required Cognition, Preserve Meaningful Agency}. }
