本文提出 Temporal Cognitive Frontier Theory(TCFT)的 Time-Normalized Novelty(時間正規化新穎度,TNN) 與 Frozen-Time Prior-Art Audit(時間凍結先前技術/先前知識審查,FTPA) 。
Novelty must be evaluated against what was available, recoverable, representable, and reasonably generable at the relevant time, not against what later became known. \boxed{
\text{Novelty must be evaluated against what was available,
recoverable, representable, and reasonably generable at the relevant time,
not against what later became known.}
} Novelty must be evaluated against what was available, recoverable, representable, and reasonably generable at the relevant time, not against what later became known.
對候選輸出 x i x_i x i ,產生時間為 t 0 t_0 t 0 ,本文不直接問:
N o v e l ( x i ) ? Novel(x_i)? N o v e l ( x i )?
N o v e l ( x i ∣ K ≤ t 0 , A ≤ t 0 , T ≤ t 0 , B t 0 , P r o v ( x i ) ) . \boxed{
Novel(
x_i
\mid
K_{\le t_0},
A_{\le t_0},
T_{\le t_0},
B_{t_0},
Prov(x_i)
).
} N o v e l ( x i ∣ K ≤ t 0 , A ≤ t 0 , T ≤ t 0 , B t 0 , P r o v ( x i )) .
其中:
K ≤ t 0 K_{\le t_0} K ≤ t 0 :當時可取得的知識背景;
A ≤ t 0 A_{\le t_0} A ≤ t 0 :當時可用的智能、計算與工具能力;
T ≤ t 0 T_{\le t_0} T ≤ t 0 :當時存在的技術、制度與表示手段;
B t 0 B_{t_0} B t 0 :同期合理基準,包括一般人、領域專家、前沿專家、制度、搜索系統、AI 或 human-AI system;
P r o v ( x i ) Prov(x_i) P r o v ( x i ) :候選輸出的時間戳、版本、來源與證據鏈。
Lexical ≠ Semantic ≠ Combinatorial ≠ Problem-Space ≠ Representational ≠ Program-Structural ≠ Domain-Seed ≠ Predictive Novelty . \boxed{
\text{Lexical}
\neq
\text{Semantic}
\neq
\text{Combinatorial}
\neq
\text{Problem-Space}
\neq
\text{Representational}
\neq
\text{Program-Structural}
\neq
\text{Domain-Seed}
\neq
\text{Predictive Novelty}.
} Lexical = Semantic = Combinatorial = Problem-Space = Representational = Program-Structural = Domain-Seed = Predictive Novelty .
Priority–Novelty–Recognition Separation :
Priority ≠ Novelty ≠ Recognition ≠ Long-Term Value . \boxed{
\text{Priority}
\neq
\text{Novelty}
\neq
\text{Recognition}
\neq
\text{Long-Term Value}.
} Priority = Novelty = Recognition = Long-Term Value .
LLM says novel ⇏ Novel . \boxed{
\text{LLM says novel}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{Novel}.
} LLM says novel ⇒ Novel .
Temporal Novelty Residual :
R i T N ( t 0 ) = S t r u c t u r e ( x i ) − B e s t R e c o v e r a b l e B a s e l i n e ( K ≤ t 0 , B t 0 ) , \boxed{
R_i^{TN}(t_0)
=
Structure(x_i)
-
BestRecoverableBaseline(
K_{\le t_0},
B_{t_0}
),
} R i T N ( t 0 ) = S t r u c t u r e ( x i ) − B es tR eco v er ab l e B a se l in e ( K ≤ t 0 , B t 0 ) ,
Historical novelty is a time-indexed residual, not a retrospective impression. \boxed{
\text{Historical novelty is a time-indexed residual,
not a retrospective impression.}
} Historical novelty is a time-indexed residual, not a retrospective impression.
Abstract
Claims that an idea was “ahead of its time” are highly vulnerable to hindsight, mythologization, incomplete archives, semantic projection, version contamination, and changes in available tools. A historical text that resembles a modern theory does not imply that its author possessed the same underlying structure; an idea that seems ordinary today may have been highly novel when produced; and later importance does not imply that the idea was non-obvious relative to contemporaneous knowledge.
This paper introduces Time-Normalized Novelty (TNN) and the Frozen-Time Prior-Art Audit (FTPA) within Temporal Cognitive Frontier Theory (TCFT). The central principle is:
Novelty must be evaluated against what was available, recoverable, representable, and reasonably generable at the relevant time, not against what later became known. \boxed{
\text{Novelty must be evaluated against what was available,
recoverable, representable, and reasonably generable at the relevant time,
not against what later became known.}
} Novelty must be evaluated against what was available, recoverable, representable, and reasonably generable at the relevant time, not against what later became known.
For a candidate output x i x_i x i produced at time t 0 t_0 t 0 , novelty is evaluated conditionally on the knowledge, tools, cognitive systems, institutional resources, contemporaneous baselines, and provenance available up to t 0 t_0 t 0 .
The framework separates lexical, semantic, combinatorial, problem-space, representational, program-structural, domain-seed, and predictive novelty. It also establishes a Priority–Novelty–Recognition separation: being first, being non-obvious, being recognized, and becoming valuable are distinct temporal properties.
The paper identifies hindsight leakage, prior-art search failure, archive blindness, semantic back-projection, tool-baseline omission, independent rediscovery, and novelty mirage as major audit hazards. Recent benchmarks of LLM novelty assessment show substantial disagreement with human expert judgments, supporting the view that LLMs should assist novelty audit rather than serve as final novelty oracles.
Finally, we define a Temporal Novelty Residual as the structure remaining after subtracting the strongest recoverable contemporaneous baseline. Historical novelty is therefore treated as a time-indexed residual, not a retrospective impression.
Keywords: time-normalized novelty; frozen-time audit; prior art; contemporaneous baseline; hindsight bias; delayed recognition; scientific novelty; AI novelty assessment; TCFT
K ≤ t 0 . K_{\le t_0}. K ≤ t 0 .
因此:
E v a l u a t i o n t o d a y ( x ) ≠ E v a l u a t i o n a t t 0 ( x ) . \boxed{
Evaluation_{today}(x)
\neq
Evaluation_{at\ t_0}(x).
} E v a l u a t i o n t o d a y ( x ) = E v a l u a t i o n a t t 0 ( x ) .
2. Hindsight Leakage
O u t c o m e f u t u r e , Outcome_{future}, O u t co m e f u t u r e ,
Hindsight Leakage . \boxed{
\text{Hindsight Leakage}.
} Hindsight Leakage .
3. Impermissible Hindsight
Relevant-Date Evaluation \boxed{
\text{Relevant-Date Evaluation}
} Relevant-Date Evaluation
4. Frozen-Time Principle
x i x_i x i
t 0 , t_0, t 0 ,
允許的 audit information:
K a u d i t ⊆ K ≤ t 0 . \boxed{
K^{audit}
\subseteq
K_{\le t_0}.
} K a u d i t ⊆ K ≤ t 0 .
x i . x_i. x i .
publications;
patents;
public datasets;
software;
hardware;
search engines;
AI models;
terminology;
institutional practices;
known failures;
available experiments;
computing power;
communication networks。
所以:
F r o z e n T i m e ≠ Publication-Date Filter Only . \boxed{
FrozenTime
\neq
\text{Publication-Date Filter Only}.
} F r oz e n T im e = Publication-Date Filter Only .
E x i s t e n c e ( d , t 0 ) \boxed{
Existence(d,t_0)
} E x i s t e n ce ( d , t 0 )
與:
A c c e s s i b i l i t y ( d , i , t 0 ) . \boxed{
Accessibility(d,i,t_0).
} A ccess ibi l i t y ( d , i , t 0 ) .
7. Publicly Available vs Privately Available
對 agent i i i :
K i ( t 0 ) = K p u b l i c ( t 0 ) ∪ K p r i v a t e , i ( t 0 ) . K_i(t_0)
=
K_{public}(t_0)
\cup
K_{private,i}(t_0). K i ( t 0 ) = K p u b l i c ( t 0 ) ∪ K p r i v a t e , i ( t 0 ) .
proprietary data;
classified information;
laboratory access;
insider position;
8. Information Privilege Adjustment
因此:
Information Advantage ≠ Reasoning Advantage . \boxed{
\text{Information Advantage}
\neq
\text{Reasoning Advantage}.
} Information Advantage = Reasoning Advantage .
K p r i v a t e K_{private} K p r i v a t e
與:
C o g n i t i v e G e n e r a t i o n CognitiveGeneration C o g ni t i v e G e n er a t i o n
9. Tool Baseline
Tool Advantage ≠ Bare Cognitive Advantage . \boxed{
\text{Tool Advantage}
\neq
\text{Bare Cognitive Advantage}.
} Tool Advantage = Bare Cognitive Advantage .
1990 Baseline
modern web search;
modern LLM;
modern arXiv;
GitHub;
contemporary databases;
modern GPUs。
因此:
B 1990 ≠ B 2026 . B_{1990}
\neq
B_{2026}. B 1990 = B 2026 .
11. Human-AI Baseline
B t h u m a n + A I . \boxed{
B_t^{human+AI}.
} B t h u man + A I .
human+AI output \text{human+AI output} human+AI output
12. Contemporaneous Cognitive Baseline
定義:
B t = { B t g e n e r a l , B t e x p e r t , B t f r o n t i e r , B t i n s t i t u t i o n a l , B t t o o l , B t A I , B t h u m a n + A I } . \boxed{
B_t
=
\{
B_t^{general},
B_t^{expert},
B_t^{frontier},
B_t^{institutional},
B_t^{tool},
B_t^{AI},
B_t^{human+AI}
\}.
} B t = { B t g e n er a l , B t e x p er t , B t f r o n t i er , B t in s t i t u t i o na l , B t t oo l , B t A I , B t h u man + A I } .
13. Baseline Reconstruction
Given K ≤ t 0 , what could a strong reasonable contemporaneous system generate? \boxed{
\text{Given }K_{\le t_0},
\text{ what could a strong reasonable contemporaneous system generate?}
} Given K ≤ t 0 , what could a strong reasonable contemporaneous system generate?
14. Weak Baseline
B g e n e r a l B_{general} B g e n er a l
N o v e l t y ≫ 0. Novelty\gg0. N o v e l t y ≫ 0.
Anomaly requires a strong baseline . \boxed{
\text{Anomaly requires a strong baseline}.
} Anomaly requires a strong baseline .
15. Candidate-Blind Baseline
x i x_i x i
x i x_i x i
Candidate-Blind Baseline Generation . \boxed{
\text{Candidate-Blind Baseline Generation}.
} Candidate-Blind Baseline Generation .
16. Reconstruction Leakage
Reconstruction Leakage . \boxed{
\text{Reconstruction Leakage}.
} Reconstruction Leakage .
17. Time-Normalized Novelty
對輸出 x i x_i x i :
N i T N ( t 0 ) = N o v e l t y ( x i ∣ K ≤ t 0 , A ≤ t 0 , T ≤ t 0 , B t 0 , P r o v ( x i ) ) . \boxed{
N_i^{TN}(t_0)
=
Novelty(
x_i
\mid
K_{\le t_0},
A_{\le t_0},
T_{\le t_0},
B_{t_0},
Prov(x_i)
).
} N i T N ( t 0 ) = N o v e l t y ( x i ∣ K ≤ t 0 , A ≤ t 0 , T ≤ t 0 , B t 0 , P r o v ( x i )) .
N ⃗ i T N = ( N l e x , N s e m , N c o m b , N p r o b , N r e p , N p r o g , N d o m a i n , N p r e d ) . \boxed{
\vec N_i^{TN}
=
(
N_{lex},
N_{sem},
N_{comb},
N_{prob},
N_{rep},
N_{prog},
N_{domain},
N_{pred}
).
} N i T N = ( N l e x , N se m , N co mb , N p r o b , N r e p , N p r o g , N d o main , N p r e d ) .
19. Lexical Novelty
N l e x N_{lex} N l e x
20. Same Word 不等於 Same Concept
domain , \text{domain}, domain ,
C o n c e p t A = C o n c e p t B . Concept_A=Concept_B. C o n ce p t A = C o n ce p t B .
所以:
Lexical Match ⇏ Structural Match . \boxed{
\text{Lexical Match}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{Structural Match}.
} Lexical Match ⇒ Structural Match .
21. Different Word 不等於 Different Concept
Lexical Difference ⇏ Conceptual Novelty . \boxed{
\text{Lexical Difference}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{Conceptual Novelty}.
} Lexical Difference ⇒ Conceptual Novelty .
22. Semantic Novelty
N s e m N_{sem} N se m
被寫作風格影響;
把錯誤當新;
把跨語言當新;
23. Combinatorial Novelty
unusual / first-time combinations of prior knowledge . \boxed{
\text{unusual / first-time combinations of prior knowledge}.
} unusual / first-time combinations of prior knowledge .
例如:
unusual citation combinations;
first-time journal pairs;
question-method combinations。
24. Combinatorial Novelty 的限制
但是:
New Combination ⇏ Deep Cognitive Advancement . \boxed{
\text{New Combination}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{Deep Cognitive Advancement}.
} New Combination ⇒ Deep Cognitive Advancement .
因為:
unit of analysis 會影響結果;
interdisciplinarity 與 novelty 可能重疊;
25. Problem-Space Novelty
Q ∗ ∉ Q b a s e l i n e , t Q^*
\notin
\mathcal Q_{baseline,t} Q ∗ ∈ / Q ba se l in e , t
而:
Q ∗ ∈ Q i ( t ) . Q^*
\in
\mathcal Q_i(t). Q ∗ ∈ Q i ( t ) .
N p r o b . \boxed{
N_{prob}.
} N p r o b .
26. Research Question Novelty
Was the question generable by the strongest contemporaneous baseline? \boxed{
\text{Was the question generable by the strongest contemporaneous baseline?}
} Was the question generable by the strongest contemporaneous baseline?
以及:
Did this question expand the future/problem base-space? \boxed{
\text{Did this question expand the future/problem base-space?}
} Did this question expand the future/problem base-space?
28. Representational Novelty
N r e p N_{rep} N r e p
new coordinate;
new diagram;
new symbolic representation;
new data structure;
new state decomposition。
29. Representation vs Decoration
N r e p > 0. N_{rep}>0. N r e p > 0.
new operational affordance . \boxed{
\text{new operational affordance}.
} new operational affordance .
30. Program-Structural Novelty
依 CODT:
M e t h o d = P r o g r a m ( O p e r a t o r s , T o p o l o g y , C o n t e x t , P o l i c y , B u d g e t ) . Method
=
Program(
Operators,
Topology,
Context,
Policy,
Budget
). M e t h o d = P r o g r am ( O p er a t or s , T o p o l o g y , C o n t e x t , P o l i cy , B u d g e t ) .
所以:
N p r o g N_{prog} N p r o g
31. Program Novelty
T e x t S i m i l a r i t y ≈ 0 TextSimilarity\approx0 T e x tS imi l a r i t y ≈ 0
但:
P r o g r a m T o p o l o g y A ≅ P r o g r a m T o p o l o g y B , ProgramTopology_A
\cong
ProgramTopology_B, P r o g r am T o p o l o g y A ≅ P r o g r am T o p o l o g y B ,
32. Domain-Seed Novelty
CODT 的:
S e e d ≠ C a n d i d a t e ≠ P r o m o t e d D o m a i n . Seed
\neq
Candidate
\neq
PromotedDomain. S ee d = C an d i d a t e = P r o m o t e d D o main .
因此:
N d o m a i n N_{domain} N d o main
33. Predictive Novelty
N p r e d N_{pred} N p r e d
A c c u r a c y Accuracy A cc u r a cy
34. Novelty 不等於 Correctness
N o v e l ⇏ T r u e . \boxed{
Novel
\not\Rightarrow
True.
} N o v e l ⇒ T r u e .
35. Correctness 不等於 Novelty
T r u e ⇏ N o v e l . \boxed{
True
\not\Rightarrow
Novel.
} T r u e ⇒ N o v e l .
36. Novelty 不等於 Utility
N o v e l ⇏ U s e f u l . \boxed{
Novel
\not\Rightarrow
Useful.
} N o v e l ⇒ U se f u l .
37. Utility 不等於 Novelty
N ( x ) ≈ 0. N(x)\approx0. N ( x ) ≈ 0.
38. Priority–Novelty–Recognition Separation
Priority ≠ Novelty ≠ Recognition ≠ Long-Term Value . \boxed{
\text{Priority}
\neq
\text{Novelty}
\neq
\text{Recognition}
\neq
\text{Long-Term Value}.
} Priority = Novelty = Recognition = Long-Term Value .
39. Priority
P r i o r i t y ( x ) Priority(x) P r i or i t y ( x )
40. Multiple Discovery
First ⇏ Only Possible Generator . \boxed{
\text{First}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{Only Possible Generator}.
} First ⇒ Only Possible Generator .
era was near a discovery threshold . \text{era was near a discovery threshold}. era was near a discovery threshold .
41. Independent Rediscovery
i i i
priority j = 0 \boxed{
\text{priority}_j=0
} priority j = 0
但:
cognitive evidence j > 0. \boxed{
\text{cognitive evidence}_j>0.
} cognitive evidence j > 0.
42. Priority Rule 與 TCFT
time-relative cognitive residual . \boxed{
\text{time-relative cognitive residual}.
} time-relative cognitive residual .
43. Recognition
R e c t ( x ) Rec_t(x) R e c t ( x )
44. Sleeping Beauty
Sleeping Beauty
R e c t 0 ( x ) ≪ R e c t 1 ( x ) \boxed{
Rec_{t_0}(x)\ll Rec_{t_1}(x)
} R e c t 0 ( x ) ≪ R e c t 1 ( x )
Low Early Recognition ⇏ Low Novelty or Low Long-Term Value . \boxed{
\text{Low Early Recognition}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{Low Novelty or Low Long-Term Value}.
} Low Early Recognition ⇒ Low Novelty or Low Long-Term Value .
45. Delayed Recognition of Novel Work
V t ( x ) = V ( x ∣ K t , A t , Q t , I t ) . V_t(x)
=
V(
x
\mid
\mathcal K_t,
\mathcal A_t,
\mathcal Q_t,
\mathcal I_t
). V t ( x ) = V ( x ∣ K t , A t , Q t , I t ) .
同一 knowledge fragment:
V t 0 ( x ) ≪ V t 1 ( x ) V_{t_0}(x)
\ll
V_{t_1}(x) V t 0 ( x ) ≪ V t 1 ( x )
Historical novelty:
N t 0 h i s t ( x ) N^{hist}_{t_0}(x) N t 0 hi s t ( x )
Historical Novelty ≠ Current Value . \boxed{
\text{Historical Novelty}
\neq
\text{Current Value}.
} Historical Novelty = Current Value .
48. Current Novelty
到了:
t 1 , t_1, t 1 ,
x , x, x ,
則:
N t 1 c u r r e n t ( x ) ≈ 0 N^{current}_{t_1}(x)
\approx0 N t 1 c u r r e n t ( x ) ≈ 0
N t 0 h i s t ( x ) N^{hist}_{t_0}(x) N t 0 hi s t ( x )
49. Temporal Lead
如果結構 s s s 由 agent i i i 在:
t i t_i t i
產生,
baseline 在:
t B t_B t B
Δ T i ( s ) = t B − t i . \boxed{
\Delta T_i(s)
=
t_B-t_i.
} Δ T i ( s ) = t B − t i .
50. Lead Time 不等於 Novelty
如果:
s s s
Δ T \Delta T Δ T
P r i o r A r t A u d i t . \boxed{
PriorArtAudit.
} P r i or A r t A u d i t .
51. Prior Art
papers;
books;
patents;
software;
talks;
archived webpages;
datasets;
public code;
standards;
known practices;
documented historical sources。
52. Prior-Art Search Failure
Not Retrieved ≠ Nonexistent . \boxed{
\text{Not Retrieved}
\neq
\text{Nonexistent}.
} Not Retrieved = Nonexistent .
53. Retrieval Confidence
C o n f r e t r i e v a l . \boxed{
Conf_{retrieval}.
} C o n f r e t r i e v a l .
54. Archive Blindness
未數位化;
遺失;
私藏;
被毀;
語言不通;
metadata 錯;
OCR 錯;
Archive Blindness . \boxed{
\text{Archive Blindness}.
} Archive Blindness .
55. False Novelty from Archive Blindness
如果:
P r i o r A r t E x i s t s = 1 PriorArtExists=1 P r i or A r tE x i s t s = 1
但:
R e t r i e v e d P r i o r A r t = 0 , RetrievedPriorArt=0, R e t r i e v e d P r i or A r t = 0 ,
False Novelty . \boxed{
\text{False Novelty}.
} False Novelty .
56. Search-Language Dependence
同一 idea:
x x x
在:
English;
German;
Japanese;
Chinese;
Russian;
Monolingual Prior-Art Search \boxed{
\text{Monolingual Prior-Art Search}
} Monolingual Prior-Art Search
57. Semantic Back-Projection
Semantic Back-Projection . \boxed{
\text{Semantic Back-Projection}.
} Semantic Back-Projection .
58. Back-Projection Failure
modern transformer cognition theory . \text{modern transformer cognition theory}. modern transformer cognition theory .
59. Structural Matching
W o r d s . Words. W or d s .
O b j e c t s , R e l a t i o n s , O p e r a t i o n s , C o n s t r a i n t s , P r e d i c t i o n s , F a i l u r e C o n d i t i o n s . \boxed{
Objects,
Relations,
Operations,
Constraints,
Predictions,
FailureConditions.
} O bj ec t s , R e l a t i o n s , O p er a t i o n s , C o n s t r ain t s , P r e d i c t i o n s , F ai l u r e C o n d i t i o n s .
60. Concept Graph
x x x
G x = ( V x , E x , Λ x ) . \boxed{
G_x
=
(V_x,E_x,\Lambda_x).
} G x = ( V x , E x , Λ x ) .
其中:
V V V :concepts / objects;
E E E :relations;
Λ \Lambda Λ :typed roles / constraints。
61. Program Graph
P x = ( O p e r a t o r s , E d g e s , C o n t r o l , C o n t e x t , S t o p ) . \boxed{
P_x
=
(Operators,Edges,Control,Context,Stop).
} P x = ( O p er a t or s , E d g es , C o n t r o l , C o n t e x t , S t o p ) .
P x ∼ P p r i o r . P_x
\sim
P_{prior}. P x ∼ P p r i or .
62. Partial Anticipation
S m o d e r n = { s 1 , s 2 , s 3 , s 4 } . S_{modern}
=
\{s_1,s_2,s_3,s_4\}. S m o d er n = { s 1 , s 2 , s 3 , s 4 } .
{ s 1 , s 2 } . \{s_1,s_2\}. { s 1 , s 2 } .
Full Theory Anticipated . \boxed{
\text{Full Theory Anticipated}.
} Full Theory Anticipated .
63. Anticipation Coverage
A C o v ( x , S ) = ∣ S t r u c t u r e ( x ) ∩ S ∣ ∣ S ∣ . \boxed{
ACov(x,S)
=
\frac{
|Structure(x)\cap S|
}{
|S|
}.
} A C o v ( x , S ) = ∣ S ∣ ∣ S t r u c t u r e ( x ) ∩ S ∣ .
64. Structural Precision
P r e c i s i o n s t r u c t . \boxed{
Precision_{struct}.
} P r ec i s i o n s t r u c t .
65. Specificity Penalty
x x x
M a t c h ( x , S 1 ) , M a t c h ( x , S 2 ) , … Match(x,S_1),
Match(x,S_2),\ldots M a t c h ( x , S 1 ) , M a t c h ( x , S 2 ) , …
C a m b i g u i t y . \boxed{
C_{ambiguity}.
} C ambi g u i t y .
66. Version Integrity
t 0 . t_0. t 0 .
67. Earliest Verifiable Version
定義:
t E V ( x ) \boxed{
t_{EV}(x)
} t E V ( x )
file creation time . \text{file creation time}. file creation time .
68. File Timestamp 不等於 Claim Timestamp
t = 2020. t=2020. t = 2020.
69. Claim-Level Versioning
C l a i m I D → F i r s t A p p e a r a n c e → R e v i s i o n s → C u r r e n t F o r m . \boxed{
ClaimID
\rightarrow
FirstAppearance
\rightarrow
Revisions
\rightarrow
CurrentForm.
} C l aim I D → F i r s t A pp e a r an ce → R e v i s i o n s → C u r r e n tF or m .
70. Provenance Integrity
對候選 x x x :
P r o v ( x ) = ( S o u r c e , T i m e , V e r s i o n , A u t h o r , R e v i s i o n C h a i n , A r c h i v e , H a s h ) . \boxed{
Prov(x)
=
(
Source,
Time,
Version,
Author,
RevisionChain,
Archive,
Hash
).
} P r o v ( x ) = ( S o u r ce , T im e , V er s i o n , A u t h or , R e v i s i o n C hain , A r c hi v e , H a s h ) .
novelty confidence 越高。
71. Timestamp Confidence
定義:
C o n f t ( x ) ∈ [ 0 , 1 ] . \boxed{
Conf_t(x)
\in[0,1].
} C o n f t ( x ) ∈ [ 0 , 1 ] .
72. Integrity Gate
若:
C o n f t ( x ) < θ , Conf_t(x)<\theta, C o n f t ( x ) < θ ,
則:
H i s t o r i c a l N o v e l t y S t a t u s = U n r e s o l v e d . \boxed{
HistoricalNoveltyStatus
=
Unresolved.
} H i s t or i c a l N o v e l t y S t a t u s = U n r eso l v e d .
73. Failure Archive
S u c c e s s e s . Successes. S u ccesses .
F a i l u r e s , A b a n d o n e d I d e a s , W r o n g P r e d i c t i o n s , D e a d E n d s . \boxed{
Failures,
AbandonedIdeas,
WrongPredictions,
DeadEnds.
} F ai l u r es , A ban d o n e d I d e a s , W r o n g P r e d i c t i o n s , D e a d E n d s .
74. Selection Bias
75. Output Volume Adjustment
因此:
Novel Hits \boxed{
\text{Novel Hits}
} Novel Hits
Total Opportunity to Produce Hits \text{Total Opportunity to Produce Hits} Total Opportunity to Produce Hits
76. Lottery Effect
N o u t p u t ≫ 1. N_{output}\gg1. N o u tp u t ≫ 1.
Cognitive Lottery Effect . \boxed{
\text{Cognitive Lottery Effect}.
} Cognitive Lottery Effect .
77. Volume
V o l u m e A d j u s t m e n t ≠ V o l u m e P e n a l t y . \boxed{
VolumeAdjustment
\neq
VolumePenalty.
} V o l u m e A d j u s t m e n t = V o l u m e P e na l t y .
78. Independent Rediscovery Test
citation history;
browsing history if available;
file chronology;
prior drafts;
conversation logs;
dependency graph。
79. Independence Confidence
C o n f i n d ( x ) . \boxed{
Conf_{ind}(x).
} C o n f in d ( x ) .
80. Independent 不等於 Novel
81. Convergent Discovery
low remaining discovery distance . \boxed{
\text{low remaining discovery distance}.
} low remaining discovery distance .
82. Discovery Distance
候選:
D d i s c ( x , t ) \boxed{
D_{disc}(x,t)
} D d i sc ( x , t )
83. Obviousness Analogy
若:
D d i s c D_{disc} D d i sc
這與 patent inventive-step 的「person skilled in the art」有方法學類比。
TCFT Novelty ≠ Patent Novelty ≠ Inventive Step . \boxed{
\text{TCFT Novelty}
\neq
\text{Patent Novelty}
\neq
\text{Inventive Step}.
} TCFT Novelty = Patent Novelty = Inventive Step .
85. Novelty Mirage
RQ-Bench
Novelty Mirage . \boxed{
\text{Novelty Mirage}.
} Novelty Mirage .
86. LLM-as-Judge 的限制
因此:
J u d g e L L M ( x ) = N o v e l \boxed{
Judge_{LLM}(x)=Novel
} J u d g e LL M ( x ) = N o v e l
corpus retrieval;
multilingual query expansion;
claim decomposition;
semantic clustering;
structural matching;
baseline generation;
contradiction search;
citation graph traversal;
version diff。
Oracle
field bias;
familiarity bias;
status bias;
school bias;
hindsight bias。
所以:
H u m a n E x p e r t ≠ P e r f e c t N o v e l t y O r a c l e . \boxed{
HumanExpert
\neq
PerfectNoveltyOracle.
} H u man E x p er t = P er f ec tN o v e l t y O r a c l e .
89. Plural Novelty Audit
理想:
A I R e t r i e v a l + A I S t r u c t u r a l A n a l y s i s + E x p e r t R e v i e w + I n d e p e n d e n t B a s e l i n e s + A r c h i v e E v i d e n c e . \boxed{

} A I R e t r i e v a l + A I S t r u c t u r a l A na l y s i s + E x p er tR e v i e w + I n d e p e n d e n tB a se l in es + A r c hi v e E v i d e n ce .
90. Novelty Confidence
N o v e l / N o t N o v e l . Novel / NotNovel. N o v e l / N o tN o v e l .
而應:
( N o v e l t y V e c t o r , C o n f i d e n c e , K n o w n P r i o r A r t , U n r e s o l v e d R i s k s ) . \boxed{
(

).
} ( N o v e l t y V ec t or , C o n f i d e n ce , K n o w n P r i or A r t , U n r eso l v e d R i s k s ) .
91. Prior-Art Match Classes
M 0 : N o R e l e v a n t M a t c h F o u n d \boxed{
M_0:
NoRelevantMatchFound
} M 0 : N o R e l e v an tM a t c h F o u n d
M 1 : L e x i c a l O v e r l a p \boxed{
M_1:
LexicalOverlap
} M 1 : L e x i c a l O v er l a p
M 2 : C o n c e p t u a l O v e r l a p \boxed{
M_2:

} M 2 : C o n ce pt u a l O v er l a p
M 3 : S t r u c t u r a l P a r t i a l M a t c h \boxed{
M_3:

} M 3 : S t r u c t u r a l P a r t ia l M a t c h
M 4 : S t r u c t u r a l N e a r M a t c h \boxed{
M_4:

} M 4 : S t r u c t u r a l N e a r M a t c h
M 5 : S u b s t a n t i v e P r i o r A r t \boxed{
M_5:
SubstantivePriorArt
} M 5 : S u b s t an t i v e P r i or A r t
這只是 audit schema candidate。
92. No Match Found 的語義
M 0 M_0 M 0
93. Time-Normalized Residual
x i x_i x i
建立:
R i T N ( t 0 ) = S t r u c t u r e ( x i ) − B e s t R e c o v e r a b l e B a s e l i n e ( K ≤ t 0 , B t 0 ) . \boxed{
R_i^{TN}(t_0)
=
Structure(x_i)
-
BestRecoverableBaseline(
K_{\le t_0},
B_{t_0}
).
} R i T N ( t 0 ) = S t r u c t u r e ( x i ) − B es tR eco v er ab l e B a se l in e ( K ≤ t 0 , B t 0 ) .
94. Residual
− - −
表示:
remove known prior components;
discount obvious combinations;
remove tool-explained gains;
remove information privilege;
account for ambiguous matches。
unexplained structural novelty . \boxed{
\text{unexplained structural novelty}.
} unexplained structural novelty .
95. Time-Normalized Novelty Vector
N ⃗ i T N ( t 0 ) = ( N p r o b , N r e p , N p r o g , N d o m a i n , N p r e d , C o n f t , C o n f r e t r i e v a l , C o n f i n d ) . \boxed{
\vec N_i^{TN}(t_0)
=
(
N_{prob},
N_{rep},
N_{prog},
N_{domain},
N_{pred},
Conf_t,
Conf_{retrieval},
Conf_{ind}
).
} N i T N ( t 0 ) = ( N p r o b , N r e p , N p r o g , N d o main , N p r e d , C o n f t , C o n f r e t r i e v a l , C o n f in d ) .
96. Ex Ante Novelty
K ≤ t 0 K_{\le t_0} K ≤ t 0
與同期 baseline:
N i p r e ( t 0 ) . \boxed{
N_i^{pre}(t_0).
} N i p r e ( t 0 ) .
97. Ex Post Value
V i p o s t ( t 0 , t 1 ) . \boxed{
V_i^{post}(t_0,t_1).
} V i p os t ( t 0 , t 1 ) .
N p r e ≫ 0 N^{pre}\gg0 N p r e ≫ 0
但:
V p o s t ≈ 0. V^{post}\approx0. V p os t ≈ 0.
N p r e ≈ 0 N^{pre}\approx0 N p r e ≈ 0
但:
V p o s t ≫ 0. V^{post}\gg0. V p os t ≫ 0.
N p r e ≫ 0 ∧ V p o s t ≫ 0. \boxed{
N^{pre}\gg0
\quad
\land
\quad
V^{post}\gg0.
} N p r e ≫ 0 ∧ V p os t ≫ 0.
101. Delayed Understanding
如果:
N p r e ≫ 0 N^{pre}\gg0 N p r e ≫ 0
R e c o g n i t i o n ≈ 0 , Recognition\approx0, R eco g ni t i o n ≈ 0 ,
之後:
V p o s t ↑ , V^{post}\uparrow, V p os t ↑ ,
102. Recognition Lag
定義:
L r e c = t r e c o g n i t i o n − t p r o d u c t i o n . \boxed{
L_{rec}
=
t_{recognition}
-
t_{production}.
} L r ec = t r eco g ni t i o n − t p r o d u c t i o n .
103. Understanding Lag
L u n d e r s t a n d = t u n d e r s t a n d i n g − t p r o d u c t i o n . \boxed{
L_{understand}
=
t_{understanding}
-
t_{production}.
} L u n d er s t an d = t u n d er s t an d in g − t p r o d u c t i o n .
104. Validation Lag
L v e r i f y = t v e r i f i c a t i o n − t p r o d u c t i o n . \boxed{
L_{verify}
=
t_{verification}
-
t_{production}.
} L v er i f y = t v er i f i c a t i o n − t p r o d u c t i o n .
105. Temporal Signature
Σ t ( x ) = ( t p r o d u c e , t r e c o g n i z e , t u n d e r s t a n d , t v e r i f y , t a p p l y ) . \boxed{
\Sigma_t(x)
=
(
t_{produce},
t_{recognize},
t_{understand},
t_{verify},
t_{apply}
).
} Σ t ( x ) = ( t p r o d u ce , t r eco g ni z e , t u n d er s t an d , t v er i f y , t a ppl y ) .
106. Historical Cognitive Advancement
如果:
R i T N ( t 0 ) ≫ 0 , R_i^{TN}(t_0)\gg0, R i T N ( t 0 ) ≫ 0 ,
historically unusual cognitive output . \boxed{
\text{historically unusual cognitive output}.
} historically unusual cognitive output .
Novelty Audit
其知識結構是否超過同期 prior art 與 baseline? \boxed{
\text{其知識結構是否超過同期 prior art 與 baseline?}
108. Future Vocabulary Test
technology;
institution;
conflict;
social structure;
E x t e n d ( P o p u l a r I d e a s t 0 ) , Extend(
PopularIdeas_{t_0}
), E x t e n d ( P o p u l a r I d e a s t 0 ) ,
則:
N T N N^{TN} N T N
109. Unexpected Constraint Test
unexpected bottleneck;
new failure mode;
new governance problem;
new engineering tradeoff。
110. Problem-Ahead Test
若:
Q ∗ ∉ Q b a s e l i n e , t 0 Q^*
\notin
\mathcal Q_{baseline,t_0} Q ∗ ∈ / Q ba se l in e , t 0
P r o b l e m S p a c e N o v e l t y \boxed{
ProblemSpaceNovelty
} P r o b l e m S p a ce N o v e l t y
111. Historical Figure Audit
Frozen corpus + contemporaneous baseline + structural reconstruction + failure archive . \boxed{
\text{Frozen corpus}
+
\text{contemporaneous baseline}
+
\text{structural reconstruction}
+
\text{failure archive}.
} Frozen corpus + contemporaneous baseline + structural reconstruction + failure archive .
112. Modern Author Audit
B 2026 h u m a n + A I . B_{2026}^{human+AI}. B 2026 h u man + A I .
B p r e A I B_{preAI} B p r e A I
比較。
113. AI Author Audit
B t A I − f r o n t i e r . B_t^{AI-frontier}. B t A I − f r o n t i er .
114. Human-AI Coupled Audit
若 output:
x H + A I , x_{H+AI}, x H + A I ,
其 novelty attribution 應分:
S y s t e m N o v e l t y \boxed{
SystemNovelty
} S y s t e m N o v e l t y
與:
I n d i v i d u a l C o n t r i b u t i o n . \boxed{
IndividualContribution.
} I n d i v i d u a l C o n t r ib u t i o n .
115. System-Level Novelty
N H + A I T N \boxed{
N_{H+AI}^{TN}
} N H + A I T N
116. Frozen-Time Audit Protocol

E x P os t V a l u e S e p a r a t e .
117. Step 1:Timestamp Freeze
固定:
t 0 = t E V ( x ) . t_0=t_{EV}(x). t 0 = t E V ( x ) .
118. Step 2:Version Integrity
確認:
earliest version;
edits;
revisions;
hashes;
archives。
119. Step 3:Claim Decomposition
將大 claim:
X X X
x 1 , … , x n . x_1,\ldots,x_n. x 1 , … , x n .
120. Step 4:Prior-Art Retrieval
P ≤ t 0 . \boxed{
\mathcal P_{\le t_0}.
} P ≤ t 0 .
121. Step 5:Baseline Reconstruction
建立:
B t 0 . B_{t_0}. B t 0 .
122. Step 6:Candidate-Blind Generation
questions;
models;
predictions;
methods。
123. Step 7:Structural Matching
比:
concepts;
relations;
operators;
topology;
constraints;
predictions。
124. Step 8:Hindsight Control
K > t 0 K_{>t_0} K > t 0
與 modern labels。
125. Step 9:Failure Archive
納入:
all recoverable misses, not only hits . \boxed{
\text{all recoverable misses, not only hits}.
} all recoverable misses, not only hits .
126. Step 10:Novelty Residual
產生:
R i T N ( t 0 ) . \boxed{
R_i^{TN}(t_0).
} R i T N ( t 0 ) .
127. Step 11:Ex Post Value
V p o s t . V^{post}. V p os t .
128. Evidence Grade
A , B , C , D , E \boxed{
A,B,C,D,E
} A , B , C , D , E
表示 audit strength。
例如:
A
immutable timestamp;
broad prior-art search;
strong baseline;
clear structural residual;
low hindsight risk。
E
anecdotal recollection;
no archive;
post-hoc paraphrase;
unknown edits。
129. Grade 不是 Novelty Score
E v i d e n c e G r a d e ≠ N o v e l t y M a g n i t u d e . \boxed{
EvidenceGrade
\neq
NoveltyMagnitude.
} E v i d e n ce G r a d e = N o v e l t y M a g ni t u d e .
130. Confidence Intervals
如果 novelty estimate:
N ^ , \hat N, N ^ ,
[ N ^ L , N ^ U ] . \boxed{
[\hat N_L,\hat N_U].
} [ N ^ L , N ^ U ] .
131. Unresolved Novelty
S t a t u s = U n r e s o l v e d . \boxed{
Status=Unresolved.
} S t a t u s = U n r eso l v e d .
N o v e l / N o t N o v e l . Novel / NotNovel. N o v e l / N o tN o v e l .
132. Dynamic Audit
P t + 1 ⊃ P t . \mathcal P_{t+1}
\supset
\mathcal P_t. P t + 1 ⊃ P t .
則:
N i T N ( t + 1 ) \boxed{
N_i^{TN}(t+1)
} N i T N ( t + 1 )
Novelty Audit Is Revisable . \boxed{
\text{Novelty Audit Is Revisable}.
} Novelty Audit Is Revisable .
134. No Permanent Novelty Verdict
TCFT 不宣稱:
N i = eternal constant . \boxed{
N_i=\text{eternal constant}.
} N i = eternal constant .
audit state;
evidence;
version;
baseline;
result date。
Paper 05 得到:
N ⃗ i T N ( t ) . \vec N_i^{TN}(t). N i T N ( t ) .
Paper 06
future-space;
counterfactual;
reflexive;
strategy;
program;
persistence;
建立:
Dynamic Cognitive Anomaly Frontier . \boxed{
\text{Dynamic Cognitive Anomaly Frontier}.
} Dynamic Cognitive Anomaly Frontier .
H1:Frozen-Time Evaluation 與 Retrospective Evaluation 顯著不同
H2:Strong Baseline
Historical Novelty
Heroic Selection Bias
Single LLM Judge
Hindsight Ablation
Condition A:
K ≤ t 0 . K_{\le t_0}. K ≤ t 0 .
Condition B:
K ≤ t 1 . K_{\le t_1}. K ≤ t 1 .
Baseline Strength Ladder
B g e n e r a l → B e x p e r t → B f r o n t i e r → B A I → B h u m a n + A I . B_{general}
\rightarrow
B_{expert}
\rightarrow
B_{frontier}
\rightarrow
B_{AI}
\rightarrow
B_{human+AI}. B g e n er a l → B e x p er t → B f r o n t i er → B A I → B h u man + A I .
Lexical vs Structural Prior Art
比較:
keyword search;
embeddings;
concept graph;
operator-program matching。
測 human-expert agreement。
Version Contamination
t f i r s t . t_{first}. t f i r s t .
Independent Rediscovery
Frozen-Time corpus,
D d i s c D_{disc} D d i sc
Novelty Mirage
讓:
LLM judge;
expert judge;
retrieval-grounded LLM;
plural panel;
評同一 research ideas。
比較 false positive novelty。
Historical Archive Expansion
先用 digitized corpus audit。
books;
patents;
non-English archives。
Failure Archive Correction
Tool Baseline
讓 baseline:
no tools;
search;
LLM;
LLM+search;
Delayed Recognition
比較:
N p r e N^{pre} N p r e
與:
R e c o g n i t i o n L a g , V a l u e p o s t . RecognitionLag,
Value^{post}. R eco g ni t i o n L a g , V a l u e p os t .
在當時的知識、工具、表示與強基準下, 仍難以正常生成。 \boxed{
仍難以正常生成。}
time-indexed residual . \boxed{
\text{time-indexed residual}.
} time-indexed residual .
Timestamp + Version + PriorArt + Baseline + Structure + FailureArchive + HindsightControl . \boxed{
\text{Timestamp}
+
\text{Version}
+
\text{PriorArt}
+
\text{Baseline}
+
\text{Structure}
+
\text{FailureArchive}
+
\text{HindsightControl}.
} Timestamp + Version + PriorArt + Baseline + Structure + FailureArchive + HindsightControl .
而且:
Priority ≠ Novelty ≠ Recognition ≠ Long-Term Value . \boxed{
\text{Priority}
\neq
\text{Novelty}
\neq
\text{Recognition}
\neq
\text{Long-Term Value}.
} Priority = Novelty = Recognition = Long-Term Value .
a normal extrapolation from its own era . \boxed{
\text{a normal extrapolation from its own era}.
} a normal extrapolation from its own era .
因此:
R i T N ( t 0 ) = S t r u c t u r e ( x i ) − B e s t R e c o v e r a b l e B a s e l i n e ( K ≤ t 0 , B t 0 ) \boxed{
R_i^{TN}(t_0)
=
Structure(x_i)
-
BestRecoverableBaseline(
K_{\le t_0},
B_{t_0}
)
} R i T N ( t 0 ) = S t r u c t u r e ( x i ) − B es tR eco v er ab l e B a se l in e ( K ≤ t 0 , B t 0 )
Historical Anomaly ≠ Current Anomaly ≠ Persistent Frontier . \boxed{
\text{Historical Anomaly}
\neq
\text{Current Anomaly}
\neq
\text{Persistent Frontier}.
} Historical Anomaly = Current Anomaly = Persistent Frontier .
