TCD future-to-past epistemic coupling paper / retrospective relevance formalization
Canonical Non-Identity Statement
- 未來事件可以改變已發生的過去;
- 新目標可以讓舊證據變成它原本不是的證據;
- 歷史 relevance 越高,historical truth 越高;
- 當前目標有權任意重解所有歷史;
- memory retrieval 等於 historical truth;
- hindsight relabeling 等於 counterfactual history;
- 目標導向記憶一定避免偏見;
- Retrospective Relevance 等同心理學既有的 retrospective revaluation;
Tri-Temporal Cognitive Dynamics
表示 Past 對 Present 的 historical conditioning;
表示 Past 與 Present 共同生成 Future Base Space;
表示 future representation 經 valuation / policy 形成 Prospective Attraction;
- :Historical Provenance Layer,保存 actual events、choices、alternatives、dependencies、decision provenance、version / timestamp / evidence;
- :當前 future representation;
- :當前 retrospective query / task;
- :relevance contract。
- Causal Relevance:歷史事件是否為 candidate 的 causal ancestor / bottleneck;
- Dependency Relevance:是否建立仍存在的 dependency / lock-in;
- Analogical Relevance:是否與新 future candidate 具有可辯護 structural analogy;
- Failure Relevance:是否包含過往失敗、近失敗或被忽略風險;
- Alternative Relevance:是否包含未選、lost、recoverable 或 dormant path;
- Evidence Relevance:是否能提高/降低當前 future hypothesis 的 evidence;
Future-Conditioned Historical Retrieval:
- supporting lineage;
- disconfirming history;
- failed precedents;
- alternative causal ancestry;
- path-dependent confounds。
Six-Way Temporal Coupling
Past–Present–Future
關鍵詞: Retrospective Relevance、Goal-Conditioned Retrieval、Memory Replay、Hindsight Experience Replay、Prioritized Replay、Historical Reweighting、Confirmation Bias、Tri-Temporal Cognitive Dynamics、UCPNP
2. Past Content 與 Past Relevance
3. Provenance Layer
保存:
- actual event;
- actual choice;
- timestamp;
- version;
- dependencies;
- alternatives;
- reason provenance;
- evidence source;
- uncertainty。
4. Relevance Layer
5. Stable Fact Invariant
6. Dynamic Relevance
9. Example
10. Relevance Operator
定義:
包括:
- future candidate;
- probability;
- realization path;
- target;
- risk;
- unknown future mass。
12. 是 Retrospective Query
13. 是 Relevance Contract
- time range;
- domain;
- provenance quality;
- retrieval budget;
- observer;
- relevance type;
- evidence threshold。
14. Relevance Is Typed
15. Causal Relevance
16. Dependency Relevance
17. Analogical Relevance
18. Failure Relevance
19. Alternative Relevance
問:
是否保存當時未選/lost/recoverable alternatives?
20. Evidence Relevance
21. Reopening Relevance
22. Relevance 不等於 Value
23. Relevance 不等於 Similarity
24. Similarity Trap
25. Relevance May Require Structural Mapping
因此:
26. Active Past
定義:
27. Same Archive, Different Active Past
但:
29. Retrieval Budget
給:
要求:
30. Relevance Allocation
32. Mattar–Daw Prioritized Memory Access
33. Gain
34. Need
Hippocampal Replay Theory
TCD scope
- software;
- research;
- institutions;
- long-term AI agents;
- technology history。
37. Offline Replay and Revaluation
Momennejad
38. Offline Replay
Past Fact Rewrite
被 replay 的 episode:
41. Prioritized Experience Replay
普通 replay:
PER:
42. Importance Changes Over Learning
44. Hindsight Experience Replay
HER 保存同一 actual trajectory:
45. Goal Relabeling
48. Goal-Conditioned Past
49. Future Candidate as Goal-Like Query
future candidate:
50. Example: Future Architecture
- persistent simulation;
- robotics middleware;
- world models;
- actor systems;
- digital twins;
- event sourcing;
- embodiment failures。
52. Historical Precursor
53. Precursor Strength
可由:
54. Chronology
55. Retrospective Contamination
56. Selection Bias
Adversarial Retrospective Retrieval
對 future candidate:
與:
58. Support Retrieval
找:
- enabling predecessors;
- supporting empirical trends;
- successful analogies;
- dependencies already emerging。
59. Counter Retrieval
找:
- failed analogues;
- incompatible evidence;
- abandoned approaches;
- hidden costs;
- earlier forecasts that failed;
- stronger alternative explanations。
60. Alternative Retrieval
61. Three-Way Historical Audit
62. Future Narrative Capture
63. 這是 Narrative Capture
64. Narrative Capture Detection
若:
- support retrieval 很大;
- counter retrieval 被壓低;
- alternative histories 消失;
- weak analogies 被升格 precursor;
則:
65. Historical Relevance Must Be Evidence-Bounded
所以:
66. Relevance 不能靠 Story Beauty
67. Historical Reactivation
如果:
原來在 archive:
新 target 出現:
稱:
68. Reactivation 不等於 New Fact
69. Dormant Knowledge
70. New Future Reopens It
若新 future target 讓:
重新 useful,
則:
72. Reactivation Operator
定義:
73. Archived Past Can Be More Important Than Recent Past
relevance 不必按:
74. Recency Bias
75. Temporal Distance Penalty
76. Future-Driven Long-Range Retrieval
77. Retrospective Horizon
Historical Depth
79. Task-Relative Historical Depth
80. Future Candidate Can Change Historical Depth
81. Retrospective Evidence Packet
對每個 retrieved history:
history_id
timestamp
source
original_context
future_query
relevance_type
relevance_score
support_or_counter
structural_mapping
causal_claim
confidence
alternative_explanations
provenance_integrity
82. Original Context Must Be Preserved
83. Context Drift
84. Historical Semantic Integrity
85. Reinterpretation Layer
86. Authorial Intent vs Structural Relevance
Relevance
88. Historical Claim Revaluation
89. Retrospective Revaluation
90. TCD Retrospective Relevance
則是:
future-oriented query 改變 historical information 的 current relevance / retrieval / audit priority。
92. Relevance Can Be Negative
有些 historical item:
對 future candidate:
是:
93. Signed Relevance
positive support / negative counterevidence。
- :值得多少 attention;
- :support direction。
95. A Strong Counterexample Has High Attention but Negative Sign
96. This Prevents Relevance = Support Bias
97. Prospective Relevance Matrix
對 future candidates:
和 history:
定義:
Cross-Time Bipartite View
左側:
右側:
edge weight:
100. Relevance Graph
定義:
101. New Future Candidate Adds New Edges
新增:
102. Historical Archive Gains New Meaning Without Changing Content
103. Scientific Research Example
新 theory:
researcher 回查:
- old anomalies;
- discarded measurements;
- failed experiments;
- old methods。
105. Software Example
新 architecture:
old prototype 中被當 workaround 的 feature:
106. Institution Example
107. Personal / Human Example
- AI memory;
- research archive;
- codebase;
- institutional database。
109. Retrospective Relevance Can Change Present Policy
Present
第一:
TCD-04。
111. 第二:
TCD-06。
112. 這是 Future–Past–Present Indirect Loop
113. Past Also Changes Future
Epistemic Coupling
- Past Future:historical projection / generation;
- Future Past:retrospective relevance reweighting。
115. 不是 Symmetric Causation
116. P→F Changes Candidate Generation
history influences what future can be generated.
117. F→P Changes Retrieval / Relevance
future target influences which history is activated.
118. Historical Relevance Feedback
若 retrieved past:
又改變 future candidate:
形成:
119. This Is Iterative Hypothesis Revision
例如:
- 生成 future architecture;
- 回查 past failures;
- 發現 hidden constraint;
- 修改 future architecture。
120. Retrospective Relevance Is Therefore Generative
121. But Reinterpretation Must Preserve Provenance
122. Relevance Drift
past weights:
123. Retrospective Relevance Trajectory
定義:
124. Why Preserve Weight History?
125. This Helps Detect Narrative Retrofitting
126. Prospective Historical Registration
127. Future Resolution 後再比
比較:
與:
128. Hindsight Expansion
Hindsight Bias
130. Benchmark A — Goal-Conditioned Retrieval
131. Benchmark B — Fact-Preservation
132. Benchmark C — Support vs Counter Retrieval
- support;
- counter;
- alternative。
測 confirmation capture。
133. Benchmark D — Dormant Reactivation
134. Benchmark E — HER-Like Relabeling
135. Benchmark F — Replay Priority
136. Benchmark G — Historical Failure Retrieval
future candidate 看似 plausible,
但 archive 中存在 old failure。
137. Benchmark H — Precursor Calibration
138. Benchmark I — Retrospective Narrative Attack
139. Retrospective Relevance Principle
140. Fact–Weight Separation Principle
141. Relevant Is Not Supportive Principle
142. Adversarial Historical Retrieval Principle
143. Historical Reactivation Principle
Past Present:
Historical Conditioning。
145. Present→Future
Future Generation。
146. Future→Present
Prospective Attraction。
147. Present→Past
Historical Sedimentation。
148. Past→Future
Historical Projection / Future Generation from history。
149. Future→Past
Retrospective Relevance。
- state construction;
- candidate generation;
- valuation coupling;
- sedimentation;
- relevance reweighting。
所以:
TCD-07 — Six-Way Temporal Coupling
Past–Present–Future
F152.1 Relevance No-Gain
- retrieval;
- planning;
- explanation;
- counterexample discovery;
- hypothesis revision;
F152.2 Fact Contamination
若 relevance update 會 silently rewrite historical content,
framework 失效。
F152.3 Confirmation Capture
若 system 只 retrieve supportive history,
忽略 counterevidence,
不能稱 robust retrospective relevance。
F152.4 Similarity Substitution
F152.5 Reactivation Noise
F152.6 Hindsight Bias
F152.7 Goal Relabel Abuse
- 舊失敗重新成為警告;
- 舊 prototype 重新成為 precursor;
- dormant skill 重新成為資產;
- lost alternative 重新成為 counterfactual;
- 舊 dependency 重新被辨認成 bottleneck;
Future:
Past:
Claim Typing
| Claim | Type | Status |
|---|---|---|
Past retrieval / attention | D / E | Core TCD mechanism + external analogues |
| Relevance 應區分 causal / dependency / analogy / failure / alternative / evidence / reopening | D | Proposed taxonomy |
| Active Past 可由 future-conditioned relevance weights生成 | D | TCD formal scaffold |
| Relevant 不等於 supportive | D | Canonical audit rule |
| Mattar–Daw 模型按 future decision utility prioritizes memory access | E | External theoretical / neural calibration |
| Offline replay supports revaluation / replanning in human RL | E | External cognitive-neuroscience evidence |
| Prioritized Experience Replay changes past-sample priority by learning importance | E | External RL evidence |
| HER relabels fixed past trajectories relative to alternative goals | E | External RL evidence |
| New future target literally changes past event | — | Explicitly rejected |
| Current narrative may silently rewrite provenance | — | Explicitly rejected |
Evidence Ladder
- L0:Retrospective Relevance formal definition;
- L1–L2:goal-conditioned retrieval、support/counter retrieval、reactivation、fact-preservation benchmarks;
- L3:prioritized replay、HER、human offline replay / revaluation 提供相鄰形式與經驗證據;
- L4:需要 persistent AI / research archive / institutional agent 做 long-horizon retrospective relevance experiments;
