$$
\Delta U_k
=
\Delta V_k
-
\Delta C_k,
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{More recursion}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{better cognition}
}
$$

$$
Q_{k+1}
\ge
Q_k,
$$

$$
\boxed{
Q_{k+1}
\ge
Q_k
}
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Metacognitive Depth}
\neq
\text{Metacognitive Quality}.
}
$$

---

$$
R^{(k+1)}
=
\mathcal M(R^{(k)}).
$$

定義：

$$
V_k
=
\text{value produced by level }k,
$$

以及：

$$
C_k
=
\text{cost incurred by level }k.
$$

則：

$$
U_k
=
V_k-C_k.
$$

$$
V_{k+1}>V_k
$$

而是：

$$
\boxed{
U_{k+1}>U_k.
}
$$

$$
\Delta U_k
=
U_{k+1}-U_k.
$$

展開：

$$
\Delta U_k
=
\Delta V_k-\Delta C_k.
$$

如果：

$$
\Delta U_k>0,
$$

$$
\Delta U_k\le0,
$$

則：

$$
\boxed{
\operatorname{STOP}.
}
$$

---

## 4.1 Error Reduction

$$
E_{k+1}<E_k.
$$

---

## 4.2 Better Discrimination

---

## 4.3 New Action Availability

$$
|\mathcal A_{k+1}|
>
|\mathcal A_k|.
$$

---

## 4.4 Generalization

$$
F_{\text{local}}
\rightarrow
F_{\text{general}}.
$$

---

## 4.5 Future Reuse

---

## 4.6 Coordination

$$
\boxed{
C_k
=
C_{\text{compute}}
+
C_{\text{time}}
+
C_{\text{representation}}
+
C_{\text{delay}}
+
C_{\text{coordination}}
+
C_{\text{autonomy}}
+
C_{\text{plasticity}}
+
C_{\text{bias}}.
}
$$

---

# 6. Compute Cost

$$
C_{\text{compute}}\uparrow.
$$

---

# 7. Time Cost

$$
T_{\text{decision}}
>
T_{\text{deadline}},
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Late correctness}
\neq
\text{timely usefulness}.
}
$$

---

# 8. Representation Cost

- assumptions；
- branches；
- provenance；
- failure models；
- opponent models；
- policy versions；
- meta-history。

$$
|\mathcal S_k|
$$

$$
|\mathcal S_{k+1}|
\gg
|\mathcal S_k|.
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Metacognitive State Explosion}.
}
$$

---

# 9. Decision Delay Cost

$$
\text{Act}
\rightarrow
\text{Check}
\rightarrow
\text{Check again}
\rightarrow
\text{Delay}.
$$

$$
C_{\text{delay}}(t)
\uparrow,
$$

---

# 10. Autonomy Cost

$$
\text{uncertainty}
\rightarrow
\text{defer}
$$

$$
P(\text{defer})\rightarrow1,
$$

則：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Safety}
\uparrow
\quad
\text{while}
\quad
\text{Autonomy}
\downarrow.
}
$$

因此：

$$
\text{low error}
$$

$$
\text{good cognition}.
$$

---

# 11. Plasticity Cost

$$
\text{high risk}
+
\text{novelty}
\rightarrow
\text{reject}.
$$

$$
F_A\downarrow,
$$

$$
F_R\uparrow,
$$

其中：

- $F_A$：false accept；
- $F_R$：false reject。

因此：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Integrity}
\neq
\text{Plasticity}.
}
$$

---

# 12. Bias Cost

$$
\boxed{
\text{Correction Rule}
\rightarrow
\text{New Bias Surface}.
}
$$

---

Meta-Overhead

當：

$$
C_{\text{meta}}
>
V_{\text{meta}},
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Meta-Overhead}.
}
$$

---

Analysis Loop

如果：

$$
O
\rightarrow
\mathcal M(O)
\rightarrow
\mathcal M^2(O)
\rightarrow\cdots
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Analysis Loop}.
}
$$

Abstention Attractor

$$
L(\text{defer})
<
L(\text{accept}),
L(\text{reject}),
L(\text{probe}),
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Defer}
\rightarrow
\text{Defer}
\rightarrow
\text{Defer}.
}
$$

這是：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Abstention Attractor}.
}
$$

Over-Rejection

$$
C_{\text{defer}}\uparrow,
$$

$$
\text{Defer}
\rightarrow
\text{Reject}.
$$

因此：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Anti-Abstention Constraint}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{Good Autonomy}.
}
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Over-Rejection}.
}
$$

---

Verification Addiction

$$
q_1,q_2,\ldots,q_n
$$

$$
VOI(q_{n+1})
<
VOI(q_n).
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Verification Addiction}.
}
$$

---

Complexity Drift

$$
M_{t+1}
=
M_t+\Delta M
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Complexity Drift}.
}
$$

Objective Displacement

$$
\operatorname{Optimize}(Proxy)
$$

$$
\operatorname{Optimize}(Goal).
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Objective Displacement}.
}
$$

Recursive Self-Confirmation

$$
M
\rightarrow
\mathcal M(M)
\rightarrow
M.
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Recursive Self-Confirmation}.
}
$$

---

$$
\Delta I_k
$$

與：

$$
\Delta C_k,
$$

其中：

$$
\Delta I_k
$$

$$
\boxed{
\Delta I_k
=
|\mathcal A_{k+1}\setminus\mathcal A_k|
+
|\mathcal D_{k+1}\setminus\mathcal D_k|,
}
$$

$$
\Delta I_k\approx0,
$$

---

# 22. Action Sufficiency Threshold

$$
Q=1.
$$

$$
Q\ge Q_{\text{act}}.
$$

其中：

$$
Q_{\text{act}}
$$

$$
\boxed{
Q_k\ge Q_{\text{act}}
\Rightarrow
\operatorname{STOP}
}
$$

$$
\mathbf Q
=
(
A,
I,
P,
R,
T,
G
).
$$

其中：

- $A$：accuracy；
- $I$：integrity；
- $P$：plasticity；
- $R$：resolution/autonomy；
- $T$：timeliness；
- $G$：generalization。

$$
A\uparrow
$$

但：

$$
R\downarrow.
$$

或：

$$
I\uparrow
$$

但：

$$
P\downarrow.
$$

因此：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Cognitive Quality}
\text{ is multi-objective}.
}
$$

---

# 24. Pareto Frontier

$$
\boxed{
\text{Pareto optimization}
}
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{There may be no universal best metacognitive policy}.
}
$$

---

# 25. Risk-Conditioned Stopping

$$
Q_{\text{act}}^{low}
$$

$$
Q_{\text{act}}^{high}
>
Q_{\text{act}}^{low}.
$$

因此：

$$
\boxed{
\operatorname{STOP}
=
f(
Q,
Risk,
Budget,
Deadline
).
}
$$

---

# 26. Metacognitive Budget

$$
B_{\text{meta}}.
$$

$$
B_{\text{meta}}
=
(
B_{\text{time}},
B_{\text{compute}},
B_{\text{queries}},
B_{\text{depth}}
).
$$

$$
B_{t+1}
=
B_t-C(O_t).
$$

如果：

$$
B_t\le0,
$$

則：

$$
\boxed{
\operatorname{STOP}.
}
$$

---

# 27. Meta-Budget

$$
B_{\text{meta}}\uparrow.
$$

$$
B_{\text{meta}}\downarrow.
$$

因此：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Metacognitive effort should be risk-adaptive}.
}
$$

---

$$
\boxed{
\text{Stopping is a metacognitive action}.
}
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{More reasoning}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{more truth}.
}
$$

$$
\operatorname{AcknowledgeIrreducibility}.
$$

---

# 30. Stop Gate

### SG1 — No New Operational Distinction

### SG2 — Marginal Utility Non-Positive

$$
\Delta U_k\le0.
$$

### SG3 — Action Sufficiency Reached

$$
Q_k\ge Q_{\text{act}}.
$$

### SG4 — Meta-Budget Exhausted

$$
B_{\text{meta}}\le0.
$$

### SG5 — Deadline Dominates

### SG6 — Irreducible Uncertainty

$$
\boxed{
\operatorname{STOP}.
}
$$

---

$$
\operatorname{PromotionGate}.
$$

$$
\operatorname{StopGate}.
$$

$$
Decision_k
=
\begin{cases}
\operatorname{Promote},
&
G_P=1
\land
G_S=0
\\
\operatorname{Continue},
&
G_P=0
\land
G_S=0
\\
\operatorname{Stop},
&
G_S=1.
\end{cases}
$$

因此：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Metacognitive control}
=
\text{Promotion}
+
\text{Continuation}
+
\text{Stopping}.
}
$$

---

$$
Method
\rightarrow
CounterMethod
\rightarrow
CounterCounterMethod
\rightarrow\cdots
$$

$$
\text{Reflexivity}
\rightarrow
\text{Escalation}.
$$

因此：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Reflexive intelligence requires reflexive restraint}.
}
$$

---

$$
\operatorname{STOP}?
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Meta-Governance}.
}
$$

---

Stop Rule

$$
A_{\text{governor}}
$$

$$
\text{distributed quorum}.
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Stopping must itself be governed}.
}
$$

---

Stop 太早：

$$
\text{Premature Closure}.
$$

Stop

$$
\text{Analysis Paralysis}.
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Plasticity–Integrity-like tradeoff}.
}
$$

---

# 36. Stop Calibration

$$
P_{\text{premature}}
$$

與：

$$
P_{\text{overthink}}.
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Stopping quality}
\neq
\text{stopping frequency}.
}
$$

---

# 37. Case Corpus

### Case A — Uncertainty Awareness

### Case B — Second-Order Trigger

### Case C — Closed-Loop Safety

### Case D — One-Step VOI

### Case E — Hard Defer Budget

$$
\boxed{
\text{Every cognitive correction creates a new control problem}.
}
$$

---

$$
Answer.
$$

$$
\tau
=
(C_0,O_0,C_1,O_1,\ldots,C_T).
$$

即：

$$
\boxed{
\text{Cognitive Trajectory}.
}
$$

$$
U(\tau)
=
V_{\text{outcome}}
-
\sum_t C(O_t).
$$

- perfectionism。

- tool-loop；
- self-critique-loop；
- over-defer；
- over-reject；
- infinite planning。

$$
\boxed{
\text{bounded cognition principle}.
}
$$

8. Pareto frontier
9. STOP Gate

$$
\boxed{
\text{Metacognitive recursion must be evaluated by marginal system-level utility rather than depth alone.}
}
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{More recursion}
\not\Rightarrow
\text{better cognition}.
}
$$

$$
\boxed{
\Delta U_k
=
\Delta V_k-\Delta C_k.
}
$$

只有：

$$
\Delta U_k>0
$$

$$
\Delta U_k\le0,
$$

$$
Q\ge Q_{\text{act}},
$$

$$
\boxed{
\operatorname{STOP}
}
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Good metacognition}
=
\text{knowing how to recurse}
+
\text{knowing what recursion costs}
+
\text{knowing when to stop}.
}
$$

$$
\boxed{
\text{Bounded Recursive Cognition Methodology}.
}
$$
