## External philosophical anchors

- Fichte: self-consciousness and freedom are developed through relation to another free subject.
- Hegel: recognition cannot be stabilized through domination; master/slave asymmetry fails to produce adequate mutual recognition.
- Honneth: recognition is psychologically and normatively central to practical identity and social freedom.
- Contemporary recognition literature: recognition of another as an autonomous/free agent carries normative implications for how that other may be treated.
- Iversen (2024): Hegelian recognition highlights the role of norms in subject formation and supports open-ended rather than closed formation.
- Kirwin (2024): reciprocated love can be understood as both recognizing the other’s distinct subjectivity and jointly turning toward a shared world.
